Eco-Pro-Net is a platform that incorporates the combined might of government, university and industry. By encouraging the incorporation of “eco design” into existing manufacturing techniques and know-how, Eco-Pro-Net seeks to promote the design, development and manufacture of “eco products” and aims to create and nurture manufacturing businesses to lead the move to build a recycling-oriented society while, at the same time, establishing and expanding a market for eco products.
Eco-Pro-Net was founded at the suggestion of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Chubu Bureau in 2006 but, because public support for operation of the organization is limited to the initial two years, it switched in 2008 to an independent organizational structure comprised of dedicated volunteers including university professors and staff of private-sector businesses. Eco-Pro-Net has operated as an independent entity since then.
The name “Eco-Pro-Net” encapsulates the network’s desire to establish the Chubu region as the focal point of a high-level manufacturing hub based on eco-design and to create and expand a market for eco-products through a truly organic network that incorporates three main elements:
