Flying along a dry river bed (film screening)
Sawa is a filmmaker who creates installations composed of video images, three-dimensional objects, and flat pieces to express his personal domain, in which actual conditions do not exist in reality, such as scenes from his own mindscapes and sensations found in his memories. Skillfully manipulating and reconstructing images and three-dimensional objects, he depicts scenes that are impossible in reality while creating a world that seems familiar in some manner, thereby exerting an influence on the viewer’s imagination.

Born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1977. After graduating from high school, Sawa studied in England, earning a Master’s degree in sculpture from University College London’s Slade School of Fine Art.
With the help of a friend who used computer animation software, he started working on video pieces. In recent years, he has been working on pieces in which the spatial composition captures the arrangement of the images in a sculptural manner, compositions juxtaposing three-dimensional and two-dimensional works, and other works in which the domains of the video and the exhibition space intersect. Sawa has exhibited and earned high praise around the world.
