As I look at the figure of a person superimposed in the bubbles that appear in a picture, I wonder about how the shape disappears in just an instant. The madness and loveliness that wells up when I realize, just before the thinnest part of the bubble film breaks, that is the part where the color is most saturated. I want to feel the comfort of acceptance by the human eyes, formed in the foam, taking in the colors of this cityscape. I take a paintbrush and observe the flow and colors. Even though the shape of the individual returns over a long period, I would think that it makes this one unbroken flow, like this river.

The Horikawa River was once connected to faraway places, and I started this creation with an awareness of the historical background of prosperity thanks to transport by water.

The route that enabled physical exchange was also a means of “drawing” out intangible information. I feel something this is something in common with my paintings.
When I use a brush to create a path for water to flow through layers of paints and insert ink into it, the colors suddenly flow into the transparent stream of water and look like blood vessels or roots, producing a feeling of overflowing vitality.
“Drawing” means both “creating pictures with a pen or pencil” and “pulling in some direction.” At the exhibition space, right there by the river, I naturally saw these two meanings overlap.

This work, “Utakata,” was produced by cutting out various scenes from recordings of various live performances made at different times and places, with scenes showing the moment when the bubbles take on a role beyond that of mere bubbles in a picture, and splicing these together anew for editing.
The river that used to be a waterway “drawing” information and materials is now a river that functions as a place to live and relax, its various roles having changed with the times. But bubbles aim to be spherical, and the water continues to flow here the way it does. By superimposing ever-changing and short-lived shape of the bubbles and the unchanging shape of the foam, I created a work to be observed for a moment.
