Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne 2013 Report

The Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne, founded in 1998, is an internationally recognized high-profile design event focused on design-led innovation, prospects for the future, and research.
Creative Design City Nagoya participated in the biennale’s exhibition titled EmpathiCITY, Making Our City Together, and introduced Nagoya-area products and design projects. A design symposium was held on March 14th, where designers representing the individual design cities presented in a Pecha Kucha format [Japanese for chatter]. Ko Yamada, representing Nagoya, delivered his presentation on a project chosen for the exhibition, “Nagoya Naruheso Newspaper and Berlin Naruheso Newspaper”.

The exhibits were displayed in a former warehouse on the property of the main venue, the Saint-Étienne Design Center. The exhibits, based on 27 different themes, were presented in the vast interior of the Design Center. Participants from Japan were exhibitors Design office nendo and YAMAHA Design Laboratory.
