NAGOYA Kids Design 2011 Report

Beginning in 2003, we began holding design seminars and workshops as educational programs with an eye to human resource development through design as well as promoting an understanding of design within the citizenry. Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in design for the protection and nurturing of children as well as design that opens up a bright future. Therefore, the main project of 2010-2011 was a continuation of the previous year’s program, in which we held parent/child workshops and exhibitions on the theme of design for kids. Through this year’s project, our purpose was to assist, through the power of design, with human resource development to support the future, namely by broadening people’s understanding of what design can do and the possibilities of design undertaken in the making of things and the design of the child’s environment.

Family Design Workshop

On the Sunday during NAGOYA Kids Design 2011, we held family workshops led by graphic designers and illustrators. These creators, members of the Council of Chubu Design Organizations, attracted far more than the capacity of the three courses they planned–with the theme of what design can do–during which they used their skills to attune participants to the appeal of design, whether through the construction of objects based on design or through the use of their own hands in making something of their own design.
