Nagoya, UNESCO City of Design is now working to develop human resources using design, and to realize an affluent society which leads to the future.
In order to contribute to the invigoration of regional industry, we shall create the collaboration between businesses and schools, and shall work to discover and develop talented young designers. Also, we shall create an opportunity for encounters in order to promote partnerships between a wide range of fields that include industry and citizens in addition to design.
In the past, Nagoya abandoned a plan to create a landfill for the disposal of garbage on the Fujimae Tidal Flat, an area rich in nature. We have also made an “Emergency Announcement for Garbage Reduction” and chosen to work with our citizens to reduce the amount of garbage generated. We shall use the experience gained from overcoming these kinds of major issues to implement a variety of projects in our quest to create a recycling society in Nagoya and to make our city environmentally friendly.
Cooperating with other members of the Creative Cities Network, we shall establish a global perspective with young designers who will lead the next generation, and engage in new projects together. While implementing these new projects, we shall use experience gained from a variety of projects conducted together with countries throughout the world such as those undertaken together with UNESCO.
